I've got a guy for that!

One thing I am truly passionate about is being loyal to people who run good businesses. I've been establishing my life here in San Diego since I moved here and I feel like I have a pretty good list of vendors that I use for my every day needs. If you're ever in need of any of these services, please check out the local vendors below that are, in my humble opinion, the best for the quality and price. If you have any questions or need further contact info; let me know: kendra@kendrasfavoritethings.com.

Shoe Cobbler: Hugo at Leather Magic in Point Loma
Hugo is absolutely the BEST. I trust him with all of my shoes and handbags (and for those of you who are aware of my taste in handbags and shoes... they tend to be a little spendy)! His prices are incredibly reasonable and he works fast. He brought life back to my Fendi bag, so I'll always be loyal to him for that. Every now and then you'll see the Nordstrom or Bloomingdales delivery boys picking up their orders, yep that's right, the big dogs go to him too!

Tailor: Alice's Alterations in Loma Portal
The second you walk into Alice's you know she's good, there are literally clothes EVERYWHERE. Alice is a no fuss tailor who will never judge you on how short you want your dress to be (hypothetical situation of course). Unless my mom's in town, I can count on Alice to tailor all of my pants, dresses and jackets to fit me perfectly. She's even taken care of dresses for special occasions for me and always done everything perfectly.

Haircut: Ha at B's Nails in Ocean Beach
Yes, this is true, I Kendra Lee Dwyer, get my hair cut cat a nail salon in OB. I was skeptical at first too, but after my first cut with her, I knew I'd never go back to paying $75 for a hair cut again. Ha charges me $18 for a cut and style, and for someone with hair like mine it's more about getting a good cut vs. a glass of wine and a scalp massage. I've even got my Mom and several friends going in to her now. She's a nice lady with 3 kids and I always feel good about being able to tip her well since I save so much on the cut itself.

Dry Cleaners: Mr. J's Cleaners in Point Loma
I've been to places that are way fancier and charge more, and I've been to places that charge less, but Mr. J's is the most efficient and the friendliest, and they've never lost anything of mine, so I remain loyal to them for my every day cleaning needs.

Jewelry Repair: Gary Gilmore Goldsmith, Ocean Beach
Mr. Gilmore (I call him that because he's a friend's dad) is the epitome of a jeweler. He understands the sentimental value of pieces even more than the monetary value, and because of that, when I need something to be fixed, he's my guy! His prices are very reasonable and since he's right on Newport in OB, going to pick up or drop off is always fun becuase you can squeeze in some shopping or a fish taco at South Beach.

"You gotta keep your head up, but you can let your hair down"

My name wouldn't be Kendra Lee Dwyer if I didn't love a cheesy pop song about being in a good mood! This one has a fun beat, a great message and an easy jingle... I like it! Enjoy.

find joy in every day

Thanks to a very wise woman, that's my new motto! Every day we have an opportunity to be happy and find joy, or focus on the annoying or not so great things that life has to offer. My decision has been to just focus on the positive and allow myself to find joy, every single day.

Cheers!

20 things that make me smile....

1. Miniature objects... anything at all that is a miniature replica of something bigger.
2. Little kids in glasses.... they are just too darn cute.

17. When someone asks me for advice, which is a huge compliment in my mind.
18. Noticing progress; in myself and in others.

It's never too late, to be who you might have been!

“For what it’s worth, it’s never too late, or in my case too early,
to be whoever you want to be.
There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want.
You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing.
We can make the best or the worst of it.
I hope you make the best of it.
I hope you see things that startle you.
I hope you feel things you never felt before.
I hope you meet people with a different point of view.
I hope you live a life you’re proud of.
If you find that you’re not,
I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”

Off to Texas!

Headed out to Austin tomorrow for some live music and libations with the girls... it's bound to be a GREAT weekend!!!!

A memo from my #1 assistant... My Mama!

And gosh, do I wish she was here this week... I have been so busy lately my errands are really falling behind! I think she needs a raise when she comes back!

Formula for success...

"May I share with you a formula that in my judgment will help you and help me to journey well through mortality… First, fill your mind with truth; second, fill your life with service; and third, fill your heart with love." -Thomas S. Monson

And this I believe to be 100% true!

FINALLY Friday!!!!

This week seriously felt like the longest week EVER. Perhaps it's because it's the first 5 day work week for me in about a month... haha, whoops! This weekend is full of fun and exciting activities starting with a quick trip up to Orange County to spend some quality time with Melissa. It's been entirely too long since we have seen each other and I am so looking forward to our time together. Then it's back down to San Diego to celebrate Dawn's birthday and a little project with my parents on Sunday... just moving, no big deal! Good thing next week is only a 3 day work week, now that's more like it! :)

Moving, again? Really!!

Well, this time it's just across the hall to a new apartment that has been renovated at bit. I finally get my hardwood floors! :) It will be an easy move and thank goodness my parents will be here this time to help me.

June Gloom, says who??

This past weekend was so beautiful, it literally felt like SUMMER! Considering the crappy hand we were dealt last summer I'm sure anything would be better, but it felt good to be out in the sun and enjoying our amazing home!
Alexandra and I enjoying some cold tall boys at Windansea! :)

Lemme Lemme Upgrade You!

It's official. I have my very own URL for my blog. Or as I used to call them in college, Earl!http://www.kendrasfavoritethings.com/ is now all you have to type in to find me! You can also e-mail me (yep that's right, I'm kind of a big deal around here) at kendra@kendrasfavoritethings.com.

When is the time to be happy?

My Love Affair with Yoga Defined

How many times do you get annoyed or stressed out throughout the day? Whether it be from spilling coffee on yourself on the way to work, (I know I'm a big klutz, but please tell me that happens to other people?!) getting cutoff on the freeway, or realizing there is mayo on your sandwich when you specifically asked for "no mayo." There used to be a time when I let all these little things get to me, they'd bottle up and eventually turn into a big thing that annoyed me.

Now close your eyes (well, don't actually close your eyes because then you won't be able to read any further) and imagine a place, or an activity that allowed you to release any and all of your bottled up emotions and left you feeling refreshed and renewed. This is what my yoga practice is for me.

When I walk onto the mat, whether it be at 6am, or 8:30 pm, my mind is normally wandering, but over the course of a 60 or 75 minute class, everything is slowed down. I am able to intake everything that I want in my life, and release all of the feelings, thoughts, hurt and emotions that are just simply taking up space in my body. I leave the mat feeling like a better version of myself, every time.

Last night in practice Sommer mentioned something that really hit home to me and everything I've been going through in my life. "Evolution is not always forward moving",  we were in Fixed Firm Pose, which is a pose I am normally comfortable with, but last night it just wasn't feeling right. Sommer mentioned that sometimes the best way to move forward in a position is to actually take a step back. This is so true not only for our yoga postures, but also for everyday situations in life. Sometimes if our emotions are telling us that we need to take a step back, it is inevitably the best way to move forward when the time is right.

Namaste,
Kendra

Operation Boot Camp!

Today was my first morning of Boot Camp at Core Power. I decided to sign up this time because Kylie is leading the class... and my oh is she a MACHINE!!! We had orientation for the course yesterday afternoon, and our first session this morning from 6-7am. The course consists of 6-7am workouts M-F for the next two weeks and Saturday morning workouts as well. Today we did an intense workout with a combination of plyometrics, cardio, and strength training. We are also expected to do a 2nd workout each day, mine will consist of a HotPower Fusion class tonight. I'm so excited to get stronger and become more focused with my workouts, on and off the mat!
