NTC Family Dinner...

Tonight I'm hosting our NTC Family dinner at my place... yep that's right, Stacy, Allison, Laura and I will be packed up like sardines in my place for a few hours.

It's hard to believe we've all known each other for about 4 years. Stacy is now the only one left at NTC but that's how our bond began, sitting in the living room of the officer's quarters at 2801 Rosecrans!

It will be good to see everyone tonight and get caught up with our lives. Now Laura is married, Allison is traveling 50% of the time, Cheryl moved to Boston (so we'll Skype her in), and Stacy is doing triathlons like it is her job!

Turkey burgers, sweet potato fries and brussel sprouts are on the menu for tonight... everyone get cozy!

The Stationary Dilemma, what's a girl to do?

The situation: I am running low on both stationary and address labels, so I need to place an order. The current dilemma that I am facing is where to order...

I love everything about their products from the bright colors to the fun patterns, to the cute mock names they come up with for the demos. The only thing I am having trouble justifying is the price.... everything on the site is a little spendy. Address labels run from .43 cents/label and the stationary can go up to $3-4/card! I think this site may have to be a "someday" purchase for this girl!

Tiny Prints: That's more like it!
Thank You Cards Embellished Border - Front : Fuchsia
If you've gotten a card from me lately, This pattern may look familiar to you! The top three reasons I love tiny prints are:
1. They have a pretty decent selection and their customer service is really great at tweaking things so they come out just right.
2. The price is right!
3. The ship at a lightning speed!
Return Address Labels Hip House - Front : Fuchsia
Return Address Labels Diva Divine - Front : Cosmopolitan

Much too young to feel this damn old!

I had about 3.5 glasses of wine last night... and I've had a headache/hangover all day. I miss the days when I could stay up all night and pop right back up the next morning for work. This whole "getting old" thing.... I just haven't seen any benefits yet! Ha ha.

On a side note, by positive attitude that crept up on me a few weeks ago is still alive and thriving and I just love it! I feel like I've had about 21 good days all in a row, and I think that is just marvelous.

Instagram = InstaLOVE!!!

Happy Birthday Kiki!!

Happy Birthday to the most amazing woman I know... my Mother! Kathryn Joan Dwyer was born on this day 29 years ago! I'm looking forward to celebrating tonight with my Mom.... first a rooftop cocktail at Mister A's and then dinner at Banker's Hill. We even have a fun guest visitor, Aunt Jane!

What I need to NOT do! :)

Closet Demolition 101

Ever since I moved into a 400 sq. ft. apartment my closet situation has been somewhat of a disaster zone. I am almost certain that if I laid all of my clothes out on the floor I would be able to cover the area of my apartment at least twice. I have clothes in bathroom, in the kitchen, under the bed and in every nook and cranny I can think of. I even considered bringing some clothes into my office as I still have a little bit of extra space there.

But, with age comes practicality (sort of)... and I know that it's just time for me to let go of some of my clothes. I almost feel like I should have a few friends over, pop a bottle of Champagne and have a fashion show (as I type I realize I'm stealing that idea from the Sex and the City movie).

I know I will feel so much better after I get rid of things that I haven't worn in a while, and most likely will never wear again... all I need to do now is pick a date and stick to it. Let the Jackhammering begin!

Change

Change is definitely is not the easiest or the most painless process we occur throughout our lives, but I do believe it is possible. My reasoning for this?? I've seen some significant changes in myself (mostly for the better) over the last few months. Some are rather simple; wearing sunscreen & taking better care of my skin, and some are more complicated; learning how to handle my emotions better and doing my best to avoid any potential melt-downs!

Perhaps the most important thing we need to realize about change, is that it can only occur within ourselves and for ourselves. We cannot expect other people to change. No matter how hard we try, if someone is not ready and willing to change for themselves, they just won't. We also cannot expect ourselves to change for other people, it has to be something we want for our own well-being, for our own lives.

I've invested a lot of time and energy in relationships, and friendships with people that I've wanted to change, or felt like I've needed to change myself for, but in the end, those are the ones that didn't work out. If we can accept who we are with people, and love others for exactly what they are right now, then we know we are in a good relationship. I think it was in Bridget Jones' Diary where the guy said "I love you just the way you are." That is how it should be, with our familes, our friends and our loved ones... we should be loved for exactly who we are, plain and simple.

On the flip side, it doesn't hurt to always want the best for ourselves and the people that we love. It is okay for me to work towards a better version of myself, as long as I fully accept and love who I am today. As I look back on my life and remember all the versions of myself over the years, I can't help but think of how much I've changed. I think about having a conversation with a 20 year old version of myself and how frustrating that would be for me today, and then I think forward to what my life will be like 20 years from now and that I'll have been through so many more changes. The most important thing for me to do right now is to live in "today" and welcome the future, but only as it unfolds.
So I guess in the end it's simple:
1. Love ourselves and others for who we are in this moment.
2. Know that we cannot expect others to change for us, nor can we expect ourselves to change for others.
3. Change cannot be forced or ignored; respect its timeline.
4. Nothing happens overnight.

Me

I'm a little over the top, but hope to think that I'm still considered classy.
I like my high heels high, but keep my standards higher.
I trust people until they give me a reason not to.
I love with everything I have.
I am notorious for giving 110%, to everything.
I absolutely adore children and I revert to acting like one when I'm around them.
Sometimes I say things, and immediately wish I had a rewind button. Oh, the perils of not having a filter.
If I could live in another era it would be when women used to wear dresses and heels to go to the supermarket.
If I had to pick one color to paint my toe nails for the rest of my life it would be "Big Apple Red" by Opi.
I think my Dad is the most amazing man on the planet.
I am pretty certain I've never worn the exact same outfit twice.
I talk about being happy and in love often because I believe in the saying: "what you think about comes about."

"How to stay Young" by George Carlin

1.Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay ‘them’.
2.Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3.Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop’ And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s

4.Enjoy the simple things.

5.Laugh often, long and loud.. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6.The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7.Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8.Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9.Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10.Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity

Pinterest.com

While I am still trying to figure this site out I definitely feel the need to begin talking about it because I have a feeling a lot of my photo posts will be coming from this site....

From what I gather this is essentially a site where people collect, post and share images of their favorite things. Check it out @ http://www.pinterest.com/. You can look at it all you want, but if you want to sign up you need to ask for an invitation. I did that a few days ago and got one via e-mail last night.

If anything, for those of us that enjoy looking through photos on blogs, this is a noteworthy site!
"This is how it works. I love the people in my life, and I do for my friends whatever they need me to do for them, again and again, as many times as is necessary. For example, in your case you always forgot who you are and how much you're loved. So what I do for you as your friend is remind you who you are and tell you how much I love you. And this isn't any kind of burden for me, because I love who you are very much. Every time I remind you, I get to remember with you, which is my pleasure." -James Lecesne

SUMMER IS HERE TO STAY

Attitude is EVERYTHING!

This week has been a REALLY good week and I've found myself in a great mood for several days in a row. It became clear to me this morning why this has happened; I have actively chosen to have a positive attitude and be in a good mood.

It may sound like a no-brainer, but there are times when I let the blues get the best of me, and it is at that point, when slowly but surely a bad mood starts to set in. This week, I didn't let anything get in the way of my good mood, and guess what?!? Nothing did!

Here's to the start of a great weekend ahead!
